NEW - Powerbrake HEAVY DUTY matched brake upgrade kits

 

We are proud to introduce the new range HEAVY DUTY matched brake upgrade kits. The kits include a front set of NEW Heavy Duty discs as well as a matched front set of NEW Powerbrake HD (High Mileage) pads. The new Heavy Duty kits are designed to offer maximum mileage / wear life. During development and testing, we regularly saw 2-3 times the mileage of many OEM and aftermarket brake discs / pads. Stopping power and fade resistance will be a meaningful improvement over the OE (original equipment) discs/pads but will not be in the league of the more expensive All Terrain and GT-Series high-performance slotted kits. To summarize then - If you have a double cab 4x4 vehicle that is looking for  unmatched wear life and slightly upgraded stopping power from your brakes, at a competitive price, then our new Heavy Duty kits are the right choice. On the other hand, if you are looking for the absolute maximum stopping power and fade resistance and are willing to get a bit less wear life, then our proven All Terrain and GT-Series kits are the way to go. The new Heavy Duty kits typically retail for about 30% less than our All Terrain and GT-Series kits, making them a very good value-for-money proposition.

 

Heavy Duty discs

 

The Heavy Duty discs are manufactured using similar cast-iron alloys and manufacturing techniques to those used in the production of the proven All Terrain and GT-Series high-performance slotted discs. The result is a range of brake discs that are machined to tolerances up to three times tighter than industry norm. These industry-leading tolerances play a key role in achieving smooth, quiet braking, zero brake judder and maximum disc life. 

Each Heavy Duty disc that leaves the production line is measured in all critical dimensions using equipment capable of measuring accurately to tolerances of 0.005mm. There is no batch testing. Every single disc is measured. This 100% inspection policy is practically unheard of in the brake disc aftermarket and is testimony to our commitment to deliver a class-leading product. 

 

The Heavy Duty discs are coated with a proprietary black ‘dry-coating’, which ensures quick bed-in and maximum brake performance from the outset. The dry-coating eliminates the need for the oil or lacquer-based coatings that are applied to most aftermarket discs (in order to stop them from rusting in the box). The oil and lacquer coatings, used by many disc manufacturers, are seldom properly removed prior to disc fitment and often end up negatively affecting brake performance. Our dry coating ensures that our discs are completely free from oil or any other contaminants, meaning that our customers are assured of the very highest levels of brake performance – straight from the box. 

The coating also means that there is no need for any disc cleaning or further preparation prior to the fitment of our discs. Simply remove your discs from the packaging, fit and use. This can save up to 20 minutes on a brake fitment job.

 

At a time when many of the discs available in the aftermarket are being sourced out of China and India and are produced to meet the lowest possible price point, (often leading to ‘suspect’ quality and resulting in brake judder and poor wear life), we offer vehicle owners a premium quality alternative in the form of our new Heavy Duty disc range. Our Heavy Duty discs will be appreciated by vehicle owners and fitment centres who understand that fitting ‘cheap’ brake discs can be costly in the long run. Our discs are designed to exceed the performance and durability of the original equipment discs fitted to the car by the vehicle manufacturer. We believe that our Heavy Duty discs are quite simply the highest quality, standard-replacement discs on the market today.

 

Heavy Duty pads

 

The new kits also include a front set of our new HD (High Mileage) pads. This pad compound is a premium Semi-Metallic material that is designed to offer strong performance, unmatched durability and good fade resistance for hardworking vehicles that drive in heavy city traffic, carry heavy loads or tow regularly. This compound is ideal for any vehicle that experiences frequent braking under load. The pads feature an insulation layer between the friction material and the backing plate that reduces heat transfer to the calliper and brake fluid under heavy braking. Also featured is a unique titanium layer on the surface of the friction material that raises the friction level for the first 50-100km's after fitment hereby improving confidence and safety during the bed-in process. Powerbrake HD is a premium workhorse material that offers upgraded brake performance over a wide temperature range while lasting up to twice as long as many original equipment or premium aftermarket pads.

What I also want to comment about is chip-tuning turbocharged vehicles.

Diesels are simple, but Petrol…

At the moment retrofitting Superchargers are quite the rage. Sadly most of these kits are using roots-type chargers that were popular on GM motors in the 50’s.

 

BUT we live in Namibia where we have temperature changes of over 50 C, Altitude can vary to over 1700m whilst Humidity...
The stock ECU changes signals according to those parameter as best as it can, whilst the Unichip then modifies those signals.
We take control of the boost, timing, Fuelling and when applicable valve timing etc.

 

I have written a previous Article on this, but at the time Efi vehicles were still uncommon. Nowadays I practically only do EFI motors.

Let me elaborate on the issues I have with compressing the charge air in a gasoline powered motor.

Your average engine is designed to run at a multitude of variables, such as Temperature, Altitude, fuels etc. This is why the Unichip is so successful in optimising the motor for our conditions.

A Std turbocharged vehicle, like the Gti can be optimised by running leaner, increasing the boost slightly & adapting the timing to suit. Now what happens when the vehicle parameters change, such as a motor that uses oil, the intercooler is blocked or the fuel is substandard ? Compression pressures and Temperatures skyrocket ! The end result is a blown top gasket, if you are lucky or a hole knocked/burned into the piston. And if you think the stock (knock) sensors will catch this and adjust the engine management system back to safe levels- not always L

Now you take a normally aspirated engine and boost that, you have even less chance of the ECU knowing something is wrong, because it was never mapped for pressures above sea-level.

I let other people do this kind of “tuning”, for me reliability is king. And apparently for others too, so I am still kept busy enhancing performance, but to a sane level.

On numerous occasions have I seen Turbocharged vehicles respond better to freeing up the gas passages by fitting a K&N, fitting a free-flow and occasionally porting the heads, than by “fitting a chip”. Costs less too J
